Arsenal 3-0 Hull City

Arsenal made the most of defeats for two of the supposed top-four, Manchester United and Liverpool, as they beat Hull City 3-0 in an ill-tempered encounter.

After Liverpool had lost at rock-bottom Portsmouth and United had been thrashed by Fulham earlier in the day, the Gunners moved to within two points of Sir Alex Ferguson's side and still have a game in hand on last term's champions. There still appeared to be some bad blood between Arsene Wenger's side and the Tigers following their controversial FA Cup clash in March which ended with City alleging that Cesc Fabregas had spat in the direction of their assistant manager, Brian Horton.

A frustrating first half for the home side came to life just before the break when Samir Nasri appeared to stamp on Richard Garcia's foot, sparking a fracas among a host of players from both sides.

Almost immediately, and with the three minutes of first-half stoppage time almost up, Denilson curled in a fantastic 30-yard free-kick to give Wenger's side the perfect tonic.

However, Hull had not forgotten Nasri's action and scuffles continued as the half-time whistle went, with Richard Garcia confronting Nasri and stewards being forced to come in to help keep the two sides apart.

The visitors had the perfect chance to equalise eight minutes into the second half when they won a penalty after the hapless Mikael Silvestre brought down Craig Fagan.

However, Manuel Almunia saved Geovanni's weak penalty and from that moment on there was only going to be one winner.

Arsenal soon doubled their advantage when Abou Diaby surged forward before setting up Eduardo to net a simple second.

Abou Diaby lashed in a 79th-minute third goal after exchanging passes with Andrey Arshavin to put a gloss on the final scoreline which flattered the Gunners.

Hull almost snatched a consolation goal when Stephen Hunt was denied by Almunia while, at the other end, Arsenal substitute Theo Walcott sent a lob inches wide and Aaron Ramsay also went close to making it 4-0. Wenger seeks compensation

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking to gain compensation from the Dutch football federation following the ankle injury suffered by striker Robin van Persie while on international duty last month.

The forward sustained ankle ligament damage during Holland's friendly against Italy on November 14 and may not play again until April.

Wenger said: "We are working on this with our lawyers at the moment and we are definitely going for it.

"I expect financial compensation for the damage it can make to the championship and the salary involved. It is especially frustrating to lose your players for the rest of the season in a friendly game.

"Initially, the Dutch FA said it was a small problem and Robin called me to see if he could go and see this Serbian wonder doctor and it was OK.

"It was only when he came back here that we realised there was much more damage. In Holland they have a fight between the national doctor and the guy that did the surgery on Robin.

"We just want to go for it because there are a lot of things that have not been done properly after he was injured."

Arsenal could raid Spurs for Pavlyuchenko

Arsenal are rumoured to have joined the list of clubs interested in signing out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old Russia international is all but certain to head out of White Hart Lane in the new year, with Roma having previously been thought to be favourites for his signature.

However, agent Oleg Artemov told tuttomercatoweb: "We are not happy about his situation at Tottenham, so we'll do everything to ensure that he can change club in January.

"There were contacts with Roma, but for now only by phone.

"Interested in the player are also Spartak Moscow, Arsenal and Zenit St Petersburg - anything can happen."

Meanwhile, the agent of Gunners forward Tomas Rosicky is preparing to fly to England to continue talks over a new contract, despite his client having suffered yet another injury setback.

Pavel Paska told deniksport.cz: "The latest injury cannot affect the negotiations on his current contract extension - the contract is already on the table.

"At the end of this week I am going to London and we will be discussing the details. I am sure that we will reach an agreement as both sides are interested in doing that."

Arsenal 2-0 Stoke City

Arsenal got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Stoke City.

A first-half goal by Andrey Arshavin and one in the second half from substitute Aaron Ramsey were enough to secure the points and move the Gunners back into third place.

The Arsenal players were very quick off the blocks and Arshavin came close to opening the scoring after just seven minutes when he accelerated on to a delightful Cesc Fabregas throughball.

Ramsey made it 2-0 for the Gunners in the 79th minute when he was first to a loose ball on the edge of the area.

He then drove into the box before firing a low shot with the outside of his right boot past the diving Sorensen into the bottom right corner to give Wenger some cheer at the end of a tough week. Their successes added alot into their popularity among the people across the glob. Now you can get Arsenal tickets online.
