Wenger hails another Fab display

Arsene Wenger feels Cesc Fabregas has taken his game to a "new dimension" after the Arsenal captain scored twice as the Gunners swept aside Champions League newcomers Braga 6-0 at the Emirates Stadium.Fabregas led the way, opening the scoring from the penalty spot and then heading in a second, with only some desperate defending denying him a hat-trick.Carlos Vela also hit a double, with the other goals coming from Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh, but all the talk afterwards was about Fabregas"He has taken another dimension," said the Arsenal boss. "People forget he is 23, where other players start."Cesc has a fantastic influence.

What is important is that he leads the team to winning. What I like is he gave the ball to Carlos Vela when he could have tried to score a third himself - that reflects the way we want to play the game and on a leader who does what the game wants, not being selfish."He arrived here at the age of 16 and enjoys the way we play. What more do you want to be happy?" Now you can buy Arsenal Tickets for Premier League 2010-2011. Arsenal complete Squillaci deal

Arsenal have completed the signing of French defender Sebastien Squillaci from Sevilla. Gunners manager Arsene Wenger confirmed on Thursday lunchtime that the deal for the 30-year-old centre-back had been sealed after the Spanish club accepted an offer last week. Squillaci will not play in Saturday's Barclays Premier League game at Blackburn but will be eligible for the Champions League campaign.

The former Lyon centre-half, who joined Sevilla from Les Gones two years ago, asked to be left out of the side for the Champions League play-off against Braga last week so he would not be cup-tied for European competition. Squillaci will strengthen an Arsenal rearguard weakened by the departures of William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and Philippe Senderos.

Wenger confirmed: "We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price - he was all of that. "He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well. "I believe he will be suited to the English game." Spahic claims Gunners interest

Bosnian international Emir Spahic claims he could be heading to Arsenal as Arsene Wenger steps up his attempts to sign at least one new defender before the start of the season in ten days' time.

The 31-year-old Montpellier defender would welcome the opportunity to play in the Premier League after being a regular starter in the French League last term.

Wenger has lost experienced trio Sol Campbell, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre this summer while signing only Laurent Koscielny from Lorient and is aware he needs to bolster his defensive options.

Spahic told Sportssport.ba: "The most important thing is that so far the negotiations have gone as planned and that the transfer could be completed soon.

"Arsenal is a great club, I'm an admirer of Arsene Wenger and I hope that Montpellier will co-operate."

Spahic played for NK Zagreb, Shinnik Yaroslavol, Torpedo Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow before joining Montpellier last summer. Now you can buy Arsenal Tickets for Premier League 2010-2011. Gunners place ban on vuvuzelas

Arsenal have followed north London rivals Tottenham in banning vuvuzelas. The horns proved hugely controversial at this summer's World Cup with some fans critical of the droning noise they created while others believed they added to the atmosphere. Spurs became the first Premier League club to ban vuvuzelas and Arsenal followed suit by announcing they were not welcome at Emirates Stadium.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Further to their hugely debated involvement at this summer's World Cup Finals in South Africa, Arsenal Football Club has decided to forbid the use of vuvuzelas within Emirates Stadium with immediate effect. "This decision has been taken to ensure the enjoyment and safety of supporters on Matchdays, which is of paramount importance to the club."

Wenger wants end to Cesc talk

Arsene Wenger has demanded a halt to the continued speculation linking Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas with a move to Barcelona. Wenger has vowed to keep hold of the Spain midfielder this summer despite Barcelona tabling one offer and refusing to give up hope of luring their former youth team star back to the Camp Nou.

Before the World Cup, Fabregas was reported to have told Wenger of his desire to return to Spain after seven seasons in north London. But following a string of pleas from Barca players and new club president Sandro Rosell for Fabregas to return to Catalonia, Wenger has demanded an end to the protracted saga ahead of the new Premier League season.

Speaking after Saturday's 4-0 pre-season friendly victory over Barnet where he was again asked about the future of his skipper, Wenger replied: "There was a lot of unneeded talk. It is not pleasant to read that every day. Now, the story has to stop. "Cesc is our captain, he is so important to us and we want to keep him, that is why we were not listening to any offers. "It was not a problem of money, just the desire to keep him at the club."

Vieira eager to make Prem return

Patrick Vieira has revealed he is ready to return to the top flight of English football after a four-season absence. The former Arsenal midfielder hopes to make his long-awaited debut for Manchester City on Saturday against Hull. Vieira, 33, has recovered from an ankle injury that has delayed his progress since arriving from Inter Milan. In World Cup year the France international is now looking to kick on at Eastlands.

"It has been a frustrating spell with the injury. Thank God it is over and I am ready to start, " he told the club's website, mcfc.co.uk.

"I suffered it in the last game for Inter and did not realise it was that bad. City have been right behind me and I have to thank them for that.

"I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League again and getting a run of games. When I was in Italy I followed the matches. They have been exciting and I really believe it is one of the best in the world."

City are pushing for a top four place after losing to Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup. Roberto Mancini's side also have an FA Cup tie against Stoke to look forward to a week on Saturday. Vieira added: "I have found a team that matches my expectations. I think the future for this club is fantastic. There are a lot of winners and great players in the dressing room. "Hopefully we can achieve what we want and finish in the top four. We are getting closer to Manchester United. The gap is definitely narrowing."

Wenger not guaranteed to buy

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will bide his time in the transfer window despite bemoaning a lack of options after Sunday's 2-1 FA Cup win over West Ham United.

Aaron Ramsey and Eduardo popped up with late goals to fire the Gunners into the fourth round following a narrow victory at Upton Park.

Key midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Andrey Arshavin missed the game through injury, while Alex Song and Emmanuel Eboue will now depart for the African Cup of Nations.

But despite seeing his options limited further, the Frenchman is still not ready to commit to signing any new players this month.

"As many people say I have the money, I have the desire, but I do not have the player," he explained.

"I do not know what will happen. Basically, it depends how the big guns - Manchester City and Chelsea - will move. Where will they buy? If they buy from English clubs, the market will be busy.

"If they do not buy from English clubs, I think the market will be very quiet because there is not a lot of money around.

"I am not near (to signing) anybody." You can buy your favourite Arsenal Tickets online through our secure and guaranteed online booking system.

Wenger hails in form Gunners

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was pleased that his side were able to build on Sunday's victory against Aston Villa by thrashing Portsmouth 4-1 at Fratton Park on Wednesday.

The festive results have meant that, if the Gunners beat Bolton Wanderers next Wednesday, they will move up to second in the Premier League table, only one point behind leaders Chelsea.

Wenger said after the rout of Pompey: "I believe it was a big game for us because we played a big game on Sunday and sometimes, three days later, you can be less focused.

"But we were committed, focused, and ready for it and played like a real team against a Portsmouth side who fought very hard.

"We were a bit lucky on the first goal but after that we controlled the game. I'm proud of the team because the belief is there and we played like a real team. It was a big game for us tonight. We knew, to keep chasing, it was important to win here.

"Tonight we showed a physical response in the first half when they made it very physical. In midfield we were really up for it and dominated physically.

"I'm not surprised at what we've done since Chelsea, when we lost 3-0. I think people at that time didn't believe what I said. It's good. It shows that not only I can be wrong, but you can all be wrong, too."
