Gunners place ban on vuvuzelas

Arsenal have followed north London rivals Tottenham in banning vuvuzelas. The horns proved hugely controversial at this summer's World Cup with some fans critical of the droning noise they created while others believed they added to the atmosphere. Spurs became the first Premier League club to ban vuvuzelas and Arsenal followed suit by announcing they were not welcome at Emirates Stadium.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Further to their hugely debated involvement at this summer's World Cup Finals in South Africa, Arsenal Football Club has decided to forbid the use of vuvuzelas within Emirates Stadium with immediate effect. "This decision has been taken to ensure the enjoyment and safety of supporters on Matchdays, which is of paramount importance to the club."

Wenger wants end to Cesc talk

Arsene Wenger has demanded a halt to the continued speculation linking Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas with a move to Barcelona. Wenger has vowed to keep hold of the Spain midfielder this summer despite Barcelona tabling one offer and refusing to give up hope of luring their former youth team star back to the Camp Nou.

Before the World Cup, Fabregas was reported to have told Wenger of his desire to return to Spain after seven seasons in north London. But following a string of pleas from Barca players and new club president Sandro Rosell for Fabregas to return to Catalonia, Wenger has demanded an end to the protracted saga ahead of the new Premier League season.

Speaking after Saturday's 4-0 pre-season friendly victory over Barnet where he was again asked about the future of his skipper, Wenger replied: "There was a lot of unneeded talk. It is not pleasant to read that every day. Now, the story has to stop. "Cesc is our captain, he is so important to us and we want to keep him, that is why we were not listening to any offers. "It was not a problem of money, just the desire to keep him at the club."
